Acute help

Läckeby was called in when a fire knocked out the entire treatment works in Borgholm on Öland. The assignment: to restart the treatment plant and save the bio-process in the digestion chamber.

"If it had died out or been severely damaged, we would no longer have had any decomposition of our large sludge volumes," says works manager, Pehr Fredsson. "Starting a new bio-process takes months, perhaps six, and would have created major problems for operations here."

Läckeby Service rapidly arranged for a new boiler, which was transported to Borgholm the night after the fire. Five days later, the digestion chamber was operating again.

Läckeby was also assigned to rapidly restart the treatment plant. Over the years the company has carried out machinery installations and service on site and is therefore very familiar with the plant.

"The repair team was quickly on site, and could start tackling the most important problems and restart the vital functions. Little more than a week later, we were up to 75 per cent of the plant’s capacity again. Due to these rapid measures the environmental impact was minimised."
